MAISON MENACE was founded by Sul Tan in 2018. Based in Canada, the house creates ready-to-wear and accessories with an approach that ranges from graphic, detailed pieces to the restraint of the NOIRE line.

Its influences include street culture, archive fashion and the craftsmanship of earlier eras. These references inform the work, but the focus is on the garment itself: its fabric, proportions, construction and finish.

How MAISON MENACE began

Before founding the house, Sul Tan worked in DJing and music production. That creative background developed into an interest in clothing as a way to explore identity and self-expression.

MAISON MENACE was established to develop that interest through its own products. Since its founding, the house's perspective has brought together references from contemporary life and fashion's past, with attention to the details that give a piece its character.

The references behind the design

Darkness, street culture and forgotten references are part of MAISON MENACE's visual language. Archive fashion offers another source of inspiration, particularly in the way older garments handle proportion, materials and construction.

These influences bring together two ways of looking at design. Contemporary culture provides an immediate setting, while earlier garments and references offer another perspective on proportion, construction and detail.

The interest is not limited to how a piece looks at first glance. Trims, fabric and the way a garment is put together are part of the design. Some pieces make those decisions immediately visible. Others keep them quieter.

From detailed pieces to NOIRE

Sul Tan works across two approaches. Some designs are maximalist, carrying detail through the fabric, trims and construction. Others reduce the number of elements, as with NOIRE.

NOIRE represents the stripped-back side of MAISON MENACE. Alongside the house's more expressive pieces, it reflects an interest in what remains when decoration is reduced: the shape of the garment, its material and the way it is finished.

The difference is in the treatment, not in the level of consideration given to the piece.

A focus on the garment

Attention to detail runs through the house's work. The aim is to consider each element rather than rely on the graphic or branding alone.

For someone choosing a piece, the individual product details matter. Materials, fit, stitching and care vary by style. The collection includes men's and women's ready-to-wear and accessories, and each product should be considered on its own specifications.

MAISON MENACE today

MAISON MENACE remains a Canada-based fashion house with a perspective shaped by street culture, archive references and a considered approach to clothing. Its collections bring together the more detailed side of the house and the quieter direction of NOIRE.
